With the increasing worldwide demand for more energy resources, the unconventional hydrocarbon reservoirs such as tight gas
sands, shale gas and coalbed methane, are receiving increasing attention from operators and service companies. Due to the
limited permeabilities of these types of reservoirs, hydraulic fracturing is an essential technology that is required to achieve
economic production, but fracturing in these reservoirs can be quite complicated. Fracture diagnostics help provide key
information about the created fractures, their growth behaviors and complexity, which can be used to optimize fracture treatments
or can be incorporated into a fracture simulator to build calibrated fracture models that can be used as a predictive tool.
