Fiber optic DTS cables

Sensornet has developed a new high-performance SureSight fiber optic distributed-temperature cable range that can withstand extreme heat and operate in harsh downhole environments. Used for high-temperature wellbore monitoring, the cables withstand temperatures up to 300°C (572°F), which are often experienced in steam-assisted gravity drainage cyclic steam-injection wells in steamflood reservoirs. The technology provides real-time permanent monitoring for enhanced recovery and proactive management. The cables have been designed and optimized with double-ended measurement capabilities, important in hydrogen-rich, high-temperature installations. The cable construction provides several benefits over standard fiber optic technology: Multiple layers provide a pressure barrier to prevent damaging hydrogen ingress, and the latest generation of optical fibers minimizes the effects of hydrogen darkening with chemical composition and coatings. Integrity of the DTS system can be monitored during installation, and information on stimulant/frac fluid placement can be sourced. 

Ring groove cutting tool

Kyocera Industrial Ceramics Corp. announced the OTM API Ring Groover, a cutting tool that provides an economic way to cut ring grooves that meet the API recommended standards. The tool cuts high-quality grooves with exceptional speed, productivity and repeatability, and is suitable for high-temperature, high-pressure applications. Its features include low cost per cut, easy setup and adjustment, excellent surface finish and repeatability, free-cutting geometry and an integral CAT 50 shank for maximum rigidity. Several other shank options are available upon special request. 

 

Collaboration software for project data

Petris has announced the release of PetrisWINDS iShare, its new collaboration software for energy teams that need to share information securely. Based on Microsoft’s SharePoint platform, iShare is scalable to multiple companies, multiple users and large datasets. With iShare, teams can manage a broad range of energy-related information assets. Applications include property asset marketing (online data rooms), due diligence collaboration, post-merger data transfer and sharing of project data (e.g, joint venture production data). The software can be customized to create a company-branded data-management website with all security and user settings needed for secure online collaboration. The application is offered as both a web-hosted solution and as a customer-installed site. The hosted version allows fast setup and implementation; diversely located project teams can begin using it within minutes. All iShare data is securely stored on Petris servers in a Class A, SAS 70-certified data center in Houston. It may also be installed inside a firewall for companies that want to manage the system on their own SharePoint platforms. 

Pipe cladding system

Hydrocarbon gases in sour oil corrode pipelines, create kicks and cause problems at the refining end. To meet the challenges of working with sour crude, ARC Specialties of Houston has developed the ARC-05P cladding machine. The system is a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) controlled, gas-tungsten-arc, vertical-bore cladding machine that circumferentially overlays corrosion-resistant alloys to the inner wall of carbon steel pipeline. The result is a pipe with the strength of carbon steel to withhold the deep sea pressures, and the material properties of corrosion-resistant alloys. The machine is controlled by a PLC control pendant box, where analog controls such as the E-stop, joystick and stop/run switch are set alongside an LCD touchscreen operator interface. Every welding parameter and their subsequent parameters have been worked out so that each can be customized, controlled and monitored through a series of touchscreen displays. The PLC control includes weld schedule storage, “teach and repeat” programming, and an AVC with the ability to fine-tune details like ramp-ups, delay times and customized overrides. The newly added L-arm configuration is a self-contained, plate-mounted unit with a 300-amp welding power supply mounted on an upper tier shelf, as well as an integrated 150-amp hot-wire power supply. Heavy-duty slides are counterbalanced to give the welding torch 24 in. of horizontal travel and 51 in. of vertical travel. The same slides on the L-arm configuration can be configured using a manipulator, which allows for a third axis of travel. The most common manipulators offer reaches of 9, 12 and 14 ft; however, the system’s versatility allows for customized integration with manipulators of a large range of size and manufacturers.
