Mpact Downhole Motors has introduced a new proprietary downhole drilling motor that promises significant increases in performance and reliability. Designated Model 775 7822 HTS, the drilling motor's ultralow speed and robust design have helped reduced drilling downtime in field trials in Texas and Louisiana.
The 775 7822 HTS motor is part of Mpact's Performance line of products, and features the company's 114 stator elastomer, which has been field-proven to outperform and outlast nitrile butadiene rubber-based elastomers with an extended life expectancy of 4:1.
The 7-3/4-in. drilling motor has a speed design of 0.08 revolutions per gallon, delivering more than 15,000 ft-lbs of torque at a differential pressure of 489 psi. With a maximum power rating of 192 hp, the 775 7822 HTS drilling motor has a flow range of 300 to 900 gpm.
Like other motors in Mpact's Performance line, the 775 7822 HTS motor has several performance benefits:
A field-adjustable housing with a wear pad to reduce wear and extend tool life
Universal joints composed of high strength alloy steel for extended life
Oil-lubricated, sealed, and pressure-balanced bearing assemblies with a one-piece mandrel, which eliminates an additional threaded connection and removes two failure points
Redundant radial bearings to support high bending loads
Incorporation of premium elastomeric materials that provide improved mechanical properties when subjected to oil-based drilling fluids and are specifically formulated to improve performance
Mpact states that its customers have experienced significant performance improvements with the new model, particularly in difficult drilling environments such as the Travis Peak and Cotton Valley formations of East Texas and Northern Louisiana.
